No cover but please imbibe without moderation (don't forget to bring a Designated Driver).

7/11/2009 - Steve Candelari's Birthday Bash!

Herman Kluge says,
Make this date a Red Letter Day in our Diary - July 11. That's Seven Come Eleven Big Slurpee Day to some, but to those of us blessed with Good Sense it's a great day to go see music at night. In this case it's a night of Solid Rock with three bands (count 'em, three!) taking the stage at Dan Electros Guitar Bar to help celebrate the birthday of our friend and drummer extraordinaire, Steve Candelari--otherwise known as Candy Larry.
My band, The Hand Me Downs will start things off at 9:00PM blast off time. The HMDs were formed to play the tunes of a local songwriter and late friend Fletcher Downs. It's great music folks and I'd love for you to hear it live in person.
We're followed by The Mockingbyrds--and excellent Byrds tribute band and then they clear the stage for Candy Larry's ultimate tasty freeze rock outfit Picturebook. As the name implies, they know a few Kinks songs as well as a terrific set list of music u love.
So in a nutcase--
WHO: The Hand Me Downs, The Mockingbyrds, Picturebook

1/3/2009 - Looking for New Bass Player!

The Mockingbyrds, a Byrds tribute band in Houston, are reforming after a year off, and we’re looking for a new bass player. We focus primarily on the music from the original Byrds, up to “The Notorious Byrd Brothers,” but that doesn’t mean we won’t handle some of their later songs. We’re not trying to LOOK like the Byrds, but we do hope to bring some of the spirit of the era into the performance. We have been known to throw in music by the Buffalo Springfield and a few other bands of the mid-60s era, and are thinking of going further in that direction. Anyone interested? Anyone know someone who might be interested? Contact TwelveSixFour@gmail.com Thanks

7/21/2007 - Stolen Guitars

Someone broke into Stephen's home and stole several guitars as well as a computer and some other household items. You can see pictures of the stolen guitars here.

7/1/2007 - New Member?

We are sorry to report that Rick Ehrlich is leaving the Mockingbyrds. We wish him well in his future endeavors. We have already begun the search for new blood. Joe Baiardi of The Fab 5 has agreed to fill in for our next gig, the benefit performance for Bill Staats (see below), so that will be a big help. We have been (ahem) In Discussions with a potential new Mockingbyrd, so watch this space!

6/23/2007 - World Tour - Sort Of

Our first World Tour (well, our first gig outside the Houston Loop) went rather well. We played at Traders Village, and while the object was to entertain people passing by, we managed to keep some of the crowd there for pretty much the whole time. A fierce thunderstorm blew in during our third set, and that brought a lot more people into the pavilion where we were playing. There was some fear of a power failure, but we were lucky and the day went off without a hitch.
(Thanks to Lana and Richard for the drinks!)

5/15/2007 - Bill Staats Benefit

The Mockingbyrds will take part in a benefit to help fellow musician Bill Staats at the Acadia Bar in Houston. The Mockingbyrds will open the show; other acts include The Chromatics, Strange Brew, and Houston's own The Fab 5.

5/11/2007 - Rainy Gig

Thanks to everyone who came to the Continental Club to support us last night! Sorry about the rain; that was really something, wasn't it?

5/10/2007 - Bob Dylan Tribute

The Mockingbyrds will be playing a couple of songs at a tribute to Bob Dylan on Saturday, May 19, 2007. Along with promoting the music of Dylan, one of the goals is to raise money for radio station KPFT. The event will be at either HappyFunLand or Danelectro's - I'll let you know more as soon as someone tells me!

4/19/2007 - Monterey Pop Festival Tribute

The Mockingbyrds will be taking part in a celebration of the fortieth anniversary of the Monterey Pop Festival. It is set for June 19 at the Continental Club. Unfortunately Dave and Alison can't be there (prior commitments), so Joe Romano and Susan Elliott, the Jazz duo Mood Indigo have agreed to fill in for that evening.
